The population of Hungary is approximately 10 million people.  It is geographically located in Central Europe but politically in Eastern Europe and is one of the ex “iron curtain” countries.  Since 2004 Hungary has been a member of the European Union, but still uses the Hungarian Forint.  At the time of print the exchange rate was approximately 1 GBP = 365 HUF.  The weather is hot in the summer; that means a lot of restaurants and night clubs are outdoors!  The winter is cold but the night clubs and bars are still “hot”!

The capital of Hungary is Budapest.  Budapest is a single city occupying both banks of the river Danube.  The “Duna” divides Budapest in to two parts - Buda and Pest.  The river runs through the middle and presents a breathtaking view of beautiful old buildings, incredible architecture; lots of history, bustling and modern life are apt ways to describe the city.  Budapest is known as the Paris of Eastern Europe.  However it is also known as the Bangkok of Europe, as it is the centre of Europe’s adult film industry!

The “Balaton” is the largest lake in Central Europe and is located about 80 km south west of Budapest. Since Hungary is landlocked, Lake Balaton is sometimes called the "Hungarian Sea”.  The average water temperature during the summer is 25° C which makes bathing, swimming, sailing etc…very enjoyable.
